Scripture: Luke 12:49
"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed!
OAP: Ah you say, that is not the soap verse for tonight! Yes, that is because I am cheating. I wrote this for my English class, but it was based on this verse which we read on Tuesday so I thought it appropriate.
What scalds my soul in your consuming flame?
How terrible the howls, the screams and cries
As I protest, my heart of silver dies.
Refining fire destroys all dirt the same
You take it all, the sin, the pride, the shame.
Too hot! The light ignites my flesh, my guise.
As I protest, my heart of silver burns,
With it my body, fire leaves it lame.
Yet nothing else will wash away the mud.
While water comes, to cleanse me till I shine,
The core remains, unscathed against the flood.
How then may I stand in your halls divine?
The fire flares, my flesh cannot endure.
The water flows, the silver stays impure.
