Scripture: Acts 5:38 - 39
"And so in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action should be of men, it will be overthrown; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God."
OAP: Dust to Dust. Everything fades with time. Nations rise and fall. Babylon, Rome, Ottoman Empire. Even the USA is just over 200 years old. Religions have passed away too. The Gods of the ancient Greeks and Romans are seen as no more than ancient weather balloons today, telling the changing of the seasons.
I've been into this movie i rented this weekend. I've watched it twice. I do not endorse for those under 17. It's called Sunshine, and its about the sun dying and these people that travel through space to re-ignite the sun. Otherwise, the entire human race will pass away. There is some interesting religious symbolism in it and discussion of whether or not man should control his own destiny or if the sun dying is a sign that God is wiping man from existence. There is even this one point of dialogue about being the last man alone with God (like Adam being the first)...that got me thinking, but I digress...
Needless to say, its added to my thoughts about the temporalness of things. Gamaliel, this religious leader cited examples and told his fellow priests that if this Christianity/Jesus thing was a hoax, it would pass away just like the other fads, leaders, etc.
Well...Here we are...Over 2000 years later. Based on this blog, I don't think God's Word has lost much relevance to reality. The name and influence of Jesus on history is undeniable. We are a part of this legacy. There is a lot of geneology in the bible, and now we get to step in and join the crowd. We are the Children of God, adopted via Jesus.
It boggles my mind. Jesus Christ has stood the test of time. We should celebrate this :)
Dear Lord, thank you for transcending time. Thank you for being eternal. Thank you for becoming a temporal man, and after 33 years, leaving an eternal mark on this planet. These words will pass away, but You will remain. I find great comfort and blessing in this.
